Crystals Shop Front Design

The Gloucester City Council team asked me to choose a shop front upon Westgate street to redesign, and I chose the Crystals shop. It was very important for this redesign to look historically sympathetic, to help showcase Gloucester’s fascinating history which is often ignored. After dissecting the brief and understanding all of the rules and regulations set by the council surrounding shop front and fascia design, I looked into the history of Gloucester, specifically Westgate street. After this I continued to become inspired, through the creation of mind-maps and mood-boards. I also visited Westgate street and took many primary images of the current shop fronts. I then went on to sketch and develop three strong design ideas, these ideas were then presented to the council so they could pick the idea that they liked best.

I like all three of my design idea’s for the Crystals shop front, however, I think that they all posses different aesthetics. I think that my first idea is very feminine, whereas my second idea is more masculine. I also think that the design idea in which the council liked best sits somewhere in the middle of this scale.

Finally, I am proud of the designs I created for this live brief and think that they fit within this brief’s requirement’s to look historically sympathetic. I also learn’t lot’s of valuable skills surrounding shop front and fascia design to help me in the future.
